First ever landrover

Disco is big , heavy and 4wd it requires a strong engine.
The big old 4.0 V8s are strong along with the Tdis but they kind of lost there way after that, sure the td5 was ok but it will always vibrate itself to death.

must confess not familiar with the 4.0 and TD5’s, daft question is that the puma engine please

am impressed with the gearbox in my D3 , being the ZF6HP , can’t hear the gears changing and extremely smooth , the ZF 8 x speed is supposed to be even better , just a shame about there engines

as they say “ the modern engines are a hand grenade with the pin pulled and don’t know when they will go off “

The 4.0 is a V8 rover engine
The Td5 is a straight 5 rover design engine but wasn't put into production until the company was brought by BMW and they "found" the plans
The Puma engine is a 4 cyl ford engine from there general production line.

The puma engine didn't fit in the defender so they bulged the bonnet , the early 2.4l variant was extremely fast but had to have a modified sump to allow front axle articulate.
On the early 2.4 they restricted it at 86 mph .. when they are de resticted they go way too fast lol.
