Overdrive!
Cars, specifically JLR ones to keep it 'on topic' have been 'full of computers' since 2005, what has changed is that many BEV's are write-offs if involved in a collision where the BMS sh!ts it's pants and goes into (unrecoverable) crash mode, which in turn, would require replacement of the traction battery together with repairs to the components damaged by the actual collision.Yeah the practices are dire, but the insurers are all losing money as repair bills have gone batshit since people started building cars full ofcomputersBatteries.
I guess it's a case of those who won't shop around are subsidising those of us who will?
There is also an increase in claims for misfueled vehicles - I have no idea how stupidity can be cause for an insurance claim, but it is. This can be as high as £6.5k as the vehicle manufacturers specified repair process has to be followed, which usually means replacement of the whole fuel system if the engine has been run. Bodyshops are also not immune from the hike in wages for skilled technicians, fuel costs, material costs etc. together with the high number of people trading in foreign driving licences for UK ones...
It all adds up to a perfect storm for the insurers to profit from.
