What did you do to your Series today?

Gosh that's a lot of fuses for a Land Rover!
It's been changed over to negative earth at some point and the entire wiring is................interesting.........I think it may have been done by a spaghetti chef, rather than a sparky. I'm going to spend some time this weekend figuring out how many are spares and how many are connected to something.
 
Where did you source them, Carly? There was a thread here recently comparing Exmoor with Heritage1948.

They are not the greatest quality, and the vinyl is a bit slippy (the better half ended up sat on the transmission cover after some spirited left-hand cornering yesterday :D ), but they are at least clean, not ripped, and a bit more comfortable than what was in there. They'll do for now while the rest of the car is getting sorted.

New plugs, new leads, new headlamp switch, new passenger fixed seatbelt and changed the gusset while I was there, new lever gaiters, and removed the centre lap by belt. I was going to do the door seals, but ran out of time and patience. Removed the door tops so I could change the window channeling over tonight whilst watching the F1, and discovered I'd actually be ordering new door tops tonight whilst watching the F1, after I've hoovered up the pile of rust in front of the tv that used to be the old door tops.
 
Took her out for a quick spin this morning as I hadn’t driven it for a week.
Decided to treat it to a new battery as although the current one seems OK, it’s 12 years old and must be on borrowed time. Bought the same again which is the biggest that I can fit in the battery tray. Actually, the current battery is a Bosch but Varta & Bosch come out the same factory and are identical apart from labels.

Weather seems to be slowly improving so oil / filter change time in the next few weeks too.

Sweep out day today. We went up to Warwickshire for an overnight camp, then over to Gaydon for the Land Rover day. A good day out but a lower turn out than in previous years, the weather was great but the forecast had been rain and I think this put a lot of people off. There was a very nice Series with a motorcycle carrier across on the rear. Got talking to the owner, it had a light Sachs 2 stroke on it but he said he could carry his Triumph T100 OK. It was set up to carry the bike and tow a small caravan at the same time, impressive.
I'm expecting some of you campers/bikers to step up to the challenge on this one :lol:

Not sure I'd trust my T120 to stay in place

I might consider some tractor weights up front with that setup! David
 
Drove it, not very far but far enough to get things up to temperature. Practising my double de clutching and remembering that first gear is pretty much redundant when there is no weight on the vehicle.
It was only when it was back in the garage that I realised how much I had missed it. That feeling of driving the vehicle and enjoying the connection, the notion that what you do has some positive impact and that you don't walk away with the feeling that it would all have gone so much better if you had just stopped touching the controls..
Then there were the aromas, hot oil, hot metal, warm petrol, something that smells like a vehicle rather than a sewing machine.
The reminiscing about all those previous Land Rovers, both my own and government owned. All the way back to when I first drove one all those years ago (55 since you ask) as a 13 year old.
Yes, I know, I'm a sentimental old tool but some things in life leave their impression on you and series Land Rovers are in that category in a way that even a coil sprung 110 cannot match
 
You love a challenge mate best of luck with that.
owning a land rover is a challenge .. or is that challenging ...??but i refuse to pay lots of money for vinyl and foam seats that might last four or five years and then have to replace them .. and yes the option i have chosen is ... shall we say a bit more expensive .. and a bit of a bugger to keep clean .. but by the end of the summer i should have finished the mechanical side of it and painted the body .. so no real need to get covered up to my arm pits in grease and oil ...( now there is an optimist for you ...) but you can only fail if you have tried and if you fail well try it another way ..:)

My hard vinyl recovered (20 years ago) originals are just perfect for me as I am almost always doing semi dirty jobs when using the Landy :)

In complete contrast to you, I have only ever owned and driven one series Land Rover! But I still love the physical connection with the machine, and the aromas you mention are very much part of the experience. I have often wondered if each has its unique aroma, or the oil/petrol/metal/heat you mention are across the brand?, subject to age and use of course. Sentimentality is definitely part of it and should be treasured as part of life's rich tapestry! We certainly don't do it for the money 🤣

Same with my VW bus, has a distinct VW air cooled smell lol
